About Ellen Kaner

​

Dr. Ellen Kaner has been a free-lance woodwind teacher and performer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for over 30 years. She maintains a large private studio, assists several band programs with section rehearsals and chamber music, is a site manager for the Flootfire Camp, and teaches in the Fort Worth Youth Symphony’s chamber music program. As a performer, Ellen is often heard in pit orchestras playing multiple woodwinds for professional, college, high school and community productions. She also manages and directs Flutes Unlimited, a flexible ensemble of flute colleagues that plays at festivals and conventions, with occasional collaborations with other musical organizations.

An officer in the Texas Flute Society for 30 seasons, Ellen has served as Festival Chair, President, Treasurer, and Trustee. She also has served on the Board of Directors of Flootfire and the Oak Lawn Band (the LGBT Band of Dallas). A long-time member of the National Flute Association, Ellen has performed at conventions in Phoenix, Dallas, Albuquerque, New Orleans, Orlando and San Antonio.

Ellen Kaner holds a DM in Flute Performance from Florida State University (studying with Charles Delaney), an MM in Flute Performance from East Carolina University (studying with Bea Chauncey), and Yale College (studying with Thomas Nyfenger). Outside of music, Ellen is committed to human rights work and physical fitness.
